South Africa's finest in Kwaito and House music will be celebrated and awarded on the 12th November 2016 at the Walter Sisulu Square.

The Mzansi Kwaito House Music Awards was founded to provide a platform for South African Kwaito and House musicians as well as award artists who are leaders in various categories.

The official hashtag for this event is #MKHMA2016, during the time leading up to the main event, #MKHMA2016 will interview artists and showcased the making of their videos, attend album launches and events related to Kwaito and House - all of which will be showcased on our YouTube channel, thus providing a platform throughout the year for the artists and sharing the lastest in Kwaito and House music entertainment with the audience.


We seek to create a platform of recognition for Kwaito and House as genres and provide an equal share of growth for artists in the genres. Develop and give exposure by showcasing upcoming artists, honour, recognize and appreciate South Africa’s Kwaito & House talent."


The MKHMA will continuously highlight the importance of preserving these genres and encourage the promotion and emerging talent in the sector. The awards seek to develop, support and provide a platform; such will be executed through the following objectives:

  • Strengthen and build fruitful working relationships with upcoming artists and A-list performers and give them the opportunity to expose their potential to new audiences and current fans.

  • Host nationwide talent searches and the top 12 will be part of the E.P. and also perform at the MKHMA annual ceremony.
  • Through this we aim to expose and develop talent, afford emerging and undiscovered talent with and opportunity and a platform growth and socio-economic emancipation.
  • We will host workshop sessions facilitated by industry experts, leaders and nominees to motivate, groom young talented music aspirants on how they can build themselves as lasting brands, we want them to understand the industry and how they can create their own legacies.

Awareness and Education

  • We will instil self-awareness and confidence to our Artists. 
  • Educate communities through road shows on the economic contribution that the music industry has on our Growth Domestic Product and domestic revenue. 
  • Basic financial training for artists in partnership with financial institutions and labour unions 
  • Legal and regulatory workshops
